Emblem Fedayeen

Description

This is the emblem of the Fedayeen, an Islamic-based monster-hunting organization. For its symbolism, it uses a curved sword in place of the crescent moon, and adds the name of God in a rainbow spectrum to indicate the brotherhood of man.

The Fedayeen has its origin from the time before Mohammed, when they protected people from paranormal creatures. There was only ever one Fedayeen per generation, and they took apprentices to train to replace them. Unlike other monster hunting orders, only men could become Fedayeen.

The contemporaneous Fedayeen saved Mohammed from a Fomorian (known as Ifrit) and The Prophet named him Fedayeen, which meant "He Who Redeems Himself By Sacrificing Himself for God". He remained with Mohammed throughout his life, but he never converted. However, he is believed by Muslims to be a virtuous pagan, whom Allah welcomed into Paradise for his devotion. Even so, the Fedayeen did take as an apprentice a young Muslim soldier, and thus the Fedayeen became an Islamic calling.

The Fedayeen rise above politics. They can be Shi'i or Sunni or any other denomination, but once they take their vows they renounce all allegiances except to God and His Prophet. They are expected to practice the Five Pillars of Islam, but beyond that their only obligation is to God and fighting monsters.

Fedayeen often seem fanatical to the uninitiated, but they are not radical fundamentalists, and have often fought alongside monster hunters of other faiths, especially Christians and Jews, being Peoples of the Book. In fact, they tend to oppose radical fundamentalist groups just as revolutionists and terrorists, believing them to be deluded by Iblis and his Shayatin. This has led to death sentences being issued by Islamic jurists connected with the Iranian revolutionary government or terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda. Most Fedayeen, however, live ordinary lives when not out monster hunting, so no such sentence has ever been carried out.
